Bruins recall defenseman Jeff Penner on emergency basis

The Boston Bruins  has recalled 5’10″ defenseman Jeff Penner from the AHL Providence Bruins on an emergency basistoday. Penner should be with the B’s tomorrow night at the Air Canda Centre as they take on the TorontoMaple Leafs at 7:00 p.m.

Penner, 22, notched  10-18-28 scoring totals last season with Providence in 80 games — second on the team among defenseman. This season, the Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, native  has skated in 55 games for the P-Bears, registering 6-21-27 totals and 18 penalty minutes.

The recall could be for the injured Marc Savard, as head coach Claude Julien could ship Matt Hunwick back up to forward, and insert Penner on D. Or, even worse, there could be an injury to another roster blue-liner.
