    After 40: Bruins 2 Panthers 1

The Bruins could not extend their lead in the second period as they saw their two goal lead cut in half as Shawn Matthias scored a short-handed goal early on in the second period. The B’s had a chance on the power-play to extend their lead to three goals, but that was not the case. We will head to the third period with the B’s holding a one goal lead.

Here are a few observations from the second period:

    1. Bruins could not capitalize early on: The B’s had a chance to do further damage going on the power-play early on, but watched the Panthers and Shawn Matthias cut the lead in half. It was a complete momentum shift in the action.

    2. Bruins came out sluggish: Not only did the B’s not further their lead, they came out of the intermission not looking like the team that played the first 20 minutes. I don’t know if they think the game is over, but the Panthers are right back in this thing with 20 minutes left in regulation.

    3. Penalty kill still strong: The B’s helped themselves out by killing two penalties in the second period. Even without Chris Kelly, the B’s are still getting the job done on the penalty-kill.

The B’s are one funny bounce away from being involved in a tie game, so look for Claude Julien to make adjustments heading into the third period. Buckle up.
