When Patrice Bergeron left last Tuesday’s game against the Senators with a moderate concussion, many Bruins fans were concerned about his health. After all, it was his fourth concussion since his season ended in 2007-08 due to ex-Flyers defenseman Randy Jones.

But there’s been some positive sings since Bergeron’s recent concussion and that continued today when he took the ice for the Bruins’ optional morning skate at TD Garden Thursday morning. And it looks like a return to the lineup could be on the horizon for the longest tenured member of the Black and Gold.

“Yes, absolutely,” head coach Claude Julien said about the encouraging news. “It’s a sign that he’s heading in the right direction.”

No timetable has been set for Bergeron’s return. But the B’s are hoping that his presence will provide a spark as they look to clinch their sixth straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight against the New York Islanders.

“He’s a tough guy and to see him on the ice and in the locker room brings up the spirits in here,” said fellow linemate Tyler Seguin, who only has one goal since Bergeron’s abscence. “He’s a huge part of our team and he’s a huge leader. He had some things to say to us after watching the game last night [against the Devils] and it’s definitely good to see.”

    McQuaid likely to go

While Bergeron remains out, defenseman Adam McQuaid should return to the lineup after missing the last 11 games.

“Adam is ready,” Julien said. “There’s a good possibility that he’ll be in the lineup tonight.”

In 25 games, the 26-year old is a plus-4 with four points (one goal, three assists) and 49 penalty minutes. His presence could have been used last night after Anton Volchenkov delivered a cheap shot to Brad Marchand – that resulted in a four-game suspension – but nonetheless, McQuaid is eager to return for the first time since suffering a shoulder strain on March 19 against the Winnipeg Jets.

“I’m just looking forward to getting back out there,” said McQuaid. “I’ve tried to change my outlook a bit. I want to play a hard game and sometimes with that style of play, injuries come along. I tried to stay positive and just work hard and get ready.”

With Marchand’s status still uncertain, the Black and Gold could’ve used some encouraging news. For the time being, it looks like they’ve received some good signs.
