The Hub was saddened by the news of the death of former Boston Mayor Tom Menino, who passed away early Thursday morning after a battle with cancer.

Fellow Bostonians have shared their thoughts through social media and other platforms to express their sympathies and remembrance of Menino. The Boston Bruins – along with the Red Sox, Celtics and New England Patriots – have several memories of the long-time Boston mayor.

“The Boston Bruins organization is deeply saddened by the passing of Mayor Menino and we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family,” Bruins president Cam Neely said in his statement. “Mayor Menino was synonymous with the City of Boston and the professional sports teams that represented it. His passion was always evident and his support unwavering. He will be deeply missed.”

“I was saddened today to learn of the passing of Mayor Menino and on behalf of the Jacobs Family I would like to express my deepest condolences to his family,” Bruins principal Charlie Jacobs said in his statement. “My family and I witnessed first hand how Mayor Menino’s vision and leadership helped transform Boston into one of the greatest cities in the world. Today we join all Bostonians in mourning our loss and celebrating Mayor Menino’s enduring legacy.”

Menino proudly displayed his support of the local sports teams, but his contributions to the city of Boston are endless. From the resurrection of the Seaport District to his dedication to the schools, hospitals and Boston area businesses, and his leadership during the Boston Marathon bombings, Menino’s contributions will leave a lasting legacy.
