Tyler Seguin responds to trade in revealing article

Eighteen months have passed since the Bruins traded Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars – along with Rich Peverley – for Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser. When the articles were published from the media about the trade, his off-ice antics were evaluated by several media pundits as a reason why he was dealt to Dallas.

A year and half later, Seguin weighs in on the trade in a revealing post for The Players Tribune.

The second overall pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft has shined since leaving Boston tallying 136 points (65 goals, 71 assists) in 126 games with the Stars. His 28 goals this season are good for first in the league and his 52 points are good for second – four points behind Jakub Voracek.

The Bruins, meanwhile, are still looking for consistency from Smith this season, while Eriksson, despite developing some good chemistry with Carl Soderberg and Chris Kelly on the third line, hasn’t been the B’s centerpiece from their end of the deal.

The aftermath of this deal has been examined for the last year and change, and it’s safe to say that the Stars got the better of the trade. It’s also safe to say that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli gave up on Seguin too early after he struggled during the team’s run to the 2013 Stanley Cup Final (one goal, seven assists and a minus-2 in 22 games).

Seguin echoed that sentiment in his article for The Players Tribune. Here is an excerpt from his article:

“Now that it’s all completely in the past, I can give you my honest answer. Do I think the Bruins gave up on me too early? Yes, I 100 percent believe that.”

That’s not all Seguin discussed in his post. Some of the other topics he revealed include his goal to play in the NHL during his time in juniors, his dreams of winning a Stanley Cup with the Bruins and how his time in Boston will be remembered for his exit.
