Quick hits: Scoreless second send Bruins and Islanders into third period tied at one

    First Period:

The Bruins came out of the gate with their hair on fire, feeding off the energy off the crowd after the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots were honored before puck drop. That energy was evident as Torey Krug and Ryan Strome dropped the gloves not even two minutes into the game. Krug’s second fight of the season.

With Brad Marchand in the box, John Tavares tallies his 24th goal of the season to give the Islanders an early 1-0 lead.

The Bruins did manage to get the goal back, a power play goal of their own. Patrice Bergeron from the slot, ties things at one. The penalty to Strome came right after a huge save by Tuukka Rask.

Brad Marchand seemed to struggle with his right leg after blocking a shot late in the first period. Will be interesting to see how the leg holds up for the rest of the game.

Overall the period was pretty good for the Bruins as they out shot the Islanders 15-13.

    Second Period:

The Bruins dodged a bullet after Krug took a big hit from Cal Clutterbuck. Krug was in visible pain as he headed down the tunnel, but returned shortly after the hit. Adam McQuaid came to the defense of Krug, but Clutterbuck declined.

Brad Marchand seemed to carry over no effects after blocking a first period shot.

As has been the case the past month, Tuukka Rask came to play tonight. Making saves on 28 of 29 shots, Rask has been the Bruins’ best player.
