Quick hits: Bruins trail Canadiens 1-0 heading into third

    First Period:

Adam McQuaid’s delay of game penalty and Brad Marchand’s charging were the only penalties called in the period. Two penalties killed by the Bruins. Montreal went three-for-three on the power play in their win over the Sabres Saturday night and have scored on six of 10 power plays against the Bruins this season.

After being “energized by the Patriots” last night which resulted in Torey Krug’s second fight of the season, Krug carried that energy and physicality into tonight’s game. Krug started the game off with a bit hit on Jiri Sekac. Krug tried another big hit on Sekac later in the period, but whiffed on the check attempt. The miss resulted in an odd man rush for the Habs, but Rask came up with a big glove save on Andrei Markov.

It was an impressive period for David Pastrnak who is taking on the Montreal Canadiens for the first time in his NHL career. The 18-year old rookie had one shot in 5:16 of ice time in the first period.

Montreal out shot the Bruins 11-7 in the first.

    Second Period:

If there’s two things the Bruins do well, one is giving up the first goal, the second is allowing a second period goal. Dale Weise’s ninth goal of the season gave the Habs the first lead of the game. The Bruins are 11-12-5 when allowing the first goal while the Canadiens are 20-2-1 when scoring first.

Rask can’t be blamed for the goal, that’s for sure. Max Pacioretty’s shot from the half-boards was heading wide, but the puck hit the outside of the post and sat perfectly for an uncovered Weise who had nothing but open net staring him in the face.

The Bruins bounced back nicely after Weise’s goal, but unfortunately Carey Price continued to stand tall. The Bruins best chances have come from Daniel Paille and Craig Cunningham. Not exactly two guys the Bruins rely on for goals.

Tonight hasn’t been the best of nights for Captain Zdeno Chara. Playing a team high 15:32 through two periods, Chara has seemed a step behind the speedy Habs all game long.
