The Boston Bruins are looking to seek revenge against the Calgary Flames on Thursday night. The last time these two teams met the Black and Gold owned a three goal lead, but eventually lost in overtime 4-3 in Calgary.

    First period Quick hits:

-The Bruins have scored the first goal in each of their last five games(3-2 record). Make it six. This time it was Brad Marchand netting his team leading 19th goal of the season on a nifty wraparound move. Patrice Bergeron and Dougie Hamilton each notched an assist. Marchand is now one goal away from his fourth 20 goal season in five years.

-Sean Monahan scored his 23rd goal of the season on the Flames’ second power-play of the night to tie the game at 1-1 with 1:11 remaining in the first period. The problems continue for the Black and Gold holding opponents off the board towards the ends of periods.

-Special teams: The Flames were rewarded with three power-plays in the opening 20 minutes. Monahan scored on one of them, the B’s killed another one while the Flames will have 1:45 remaining on their third PP after the intermission. The B’s could not build a lead while on their only power-play of the first period. It’s nothing really new as they came into tonight’s action 26-for-151 scoring at a 17 percent clip on the man advantage ranking them 22nd in the NHL.

-The B’s had their chances in the first 20 minutes, but could not break Karri Ramo after Marchand’s tally. Daniel Paille got robbed from point blank, Dennis Seidenberg went end to end and basically did everything but score and Loui Eriksson was denied toward the end of his team’s power-play.

-Max Talbot didn’t go unnoticed in the first period as he was called for a boarding penalty for drilling Dennis Wideman. The newcomer finished the first period with 3:35 of total ice time including 28 seconds on the penalty kill.
