BRIGHTON — Two weeks from today, many Americans will gather around the Thanksgiving table to count their blessings and be thankful for some of the finer things in life. Thanksgiving is not the only time to give their thanks for being with families in a safe environment.

As Veteran’s Day approaches in less than 24 hours, people from all over the country and the world will be honoring the military who keeps us safe every single day. As part of their appreciation, the Bruins will be hosting their annual Military Appreciation Night at TD Garden.

Of all the topics discussed after their morning skate — from their matchup with the Blue Jackets to David Pastrnak’s hot start and even post-Presidential Election discussions — the Bruins weren’t shy at saying thanks to the men and women who put their lives on the line to fight evil and protect the Red, White and Blue.

It’s one sentiment that they can all agree on.

“The feeling to be able to help out our military men and women that protect our freedom and allow us to do what we do — to have them come to a game on us and shake some hands and see some faces of those people that sacrifice a lot more than we ever do and they get the limelight and we should be looked at a little bit better,” said the Minnesota-born Backes. “This is an opportunity to throw them a little token of gratitude for what they’ve done for us.”

For every home game, the Bruins honor a fan who has served in the military for the 8-Spoked Salute during one of the TV timeouts in the second period. That tradition will continue tonight during a stoppage of play between the B’s and Blue Jackets.

On this night, the military is coming to the game on the Bruins’ dime. Afterward, they’ll be waiting for the team to say more thanks to them as part of a postgame meet and greet.”

“In proportion to what the military does for us, to be able to donate some tickets and be able to spend some time with them after the game, I think it’s such an easy way to show your appreciation for the sacrifices that they make for what they do for us,” said Krug, a native of Michigan. “I think it’s a game that we look forward to especially as Americans. We look forward to it every year.”

The thanks to the military don’t stop with the American-born members of the Black and Gold.

“It’s good to give them the recognition they deserve,” said Brad Marchand, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia and representative of Team Canada during the 2016 IIHF World Championships and World Cup of Hockey. “They all do so much for our country and any better recognition they get they deserve so much more. It’s great to be a part of this and I’ll be looking forward to tonight.”

During warmups, the Bruins will wear a camouflage themed Spoked-B jersey and include the US and Canadian flag logos on their stick tape. The Boston Bruins Foundation table outside of Loge 4 will include a team-worn warmup jersey available for bidding. Fans will also get a chance to purchase Camo Veteran’s Day Reebok jersey’s at the Bruins Pro Shop on Level 2.

The Bruins will also honor soldiers with zamboni rides and photo montages that will appear on Garden HDX.
