Through the first 16 games of the season, Tuukka Rask is playing like a Vezina Trophy finalist. While he still has a long way to go before being considered a Vezina winner for the second time in his career, he did receive early league recognition for his stellar play.

On Monday, Tuukka Rask received first star honors as the NHL announced its weekly three stars. The eighth-year veteran joined Jets forward Mark Scheifele and Preds goaltender and fellow Finn Pekka Rinne as the league’s second and third stars for games played from November 7-13.

During their busy five-game-in-seven-day stretch, Rask notched wins in each of his four starts. The Bruins’ stalwart earned a pair of zeroes against the Sabres and Avalanche and passed Tim Thomas for third on the team’s all-time shutout list (33). On top of all that, Rask posted a goals against average of 0.75 and a .970 save percentage. His efforts helped the Black and Gold jump to second place in the Atlantic Division standings as they sit seven points behind the division-leading Canadiens.

“Just another great game, can’t say enough about that guy,” David Krejci said to reporters about Rask following Sunday’s 2-0 win over the Avalanche. “He’s been great so far and keeping us in the game every single game. Sometimes we only need one or two goals to win the game.”

At 10-1-0 on the season, Rask is just the second goalie in Bruins history to win 10 of his first 11 starts, the other being Gerry Cheevers during the 1976-77 season. His 10 wins and three shutouts are tied for the league lead in those respective categories to go along with a 1.40 goals against average (good for second behind Carey Price) and .945 save percentage (third behind Price and Devan Dubnyk).
