Game Day Preview: Bruins at Predators

Fresh off an impressive 5-3 win in St. Louis and a 2-0-1 mark in their first three games of their road swing, the Bruins look to end their four-game trip with one or two more important points. Their final stop comes tonight in Nashville against a Predators team that’s also had their share of ups and downs in 2016-17.

This is the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Preds swept the Bruins a season ago and have also won three of the last four meetings.

The Bruins will not get to see the likes of two familiar foes from their days in the Eastern Conference. Both P.K. Subban and James Neal are on injured reserve due to respective upper body injuries.

Adam McQuaid joined the team in the morning skate and will likely be in after leaving Tuesday’s game in St. Louis following his collision with Patrik Berglund. Colin Miller, who also exited the Blues game with a lower body injury, is out, while John-Michael Liles will likely play in his second game since suffering a concussion back in November.

    Tonight’s storylines

    – In hockey cliche bingo, the term “goals come in bunches” is often near the center of the bingo card. Well, if you hear that tonight from Jack Edwards, it will describe the hot streak of Brad Marchand. After a 15-game stretch that only saw the first time all-star light the lamp three times, Marchand is going through one of those streaks again having scored five times in the first three games of the road trip. The recent hot streak extended Marchand’s goal total to 15 and his team-leading point mark to 38.

    – With Patrice Bergeron also playing well as of late, the only player on the top line that’s statistically in a slump – at least compared to his numbers from the start of the season – is David Pastrnak. Though he’s still firing shots and using his offensive creativity to make plays, the 20-year-old is going through a career-long 11 game goal drought. But things may be turning around for Pastrnak, who has points in three of his last four games including a three-assist showing in St. Louis.

    – Though it hasn’t been pretty at times, the Bruins’ offense is steadily improving with 14 goals in their last four games. Their power play has also benefitted from that stretch having scored three times in the last four and is coming off a two-goal output for the second time all season on Tuesday night. Instead of becoming a momentum killer, the Bruins are getting an advantage with the power play as of late and it’s something that needs to continue tonight against a Preds penalty kill that sits 12th with a success rate of 82.7 percent.
