As people all around the globe share what their thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend, Dalton Prout received his share of thanks from the hockey community after knocking out Milan Lucic with one punch in the last four seconds of overtime of the Bruins’ 4-3 shootout win over the Blue Jackets last Friday night in Columbus.

According to Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch, Prout received his share of kudos through text messages and Twitter mentions from hockey fans across North America (primarily Vancouver and Montreal).

The response came nearly a week after Lucic called the punch “gutless” following the Bruins’ 2-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens last Saturday.

    From Portzline’s Blue Jackets Notebook:

“I got a lot of thank-yous from family, friends, fans, players,” Prout said. “I got a lot from Montreal and some from Vancouver, but they came from all over.”

Prout even received some thanks from a source in a striped shirt.

“During warm-ups the (following night) in Philly, an (NHL) official came up to me just before the national anthem,” Prout told Portzline. “He just said, ‘Nice right hand.’ That’s the first time I’ve ever talked with an official other than arguing about a call.”

The Bruins and Blue Jackets face off for their second of three meetings in 2014-15 on December 27th in Columbus. It’s safe to say that Lucic and Prout will be ready to drop the gloves when they renew acquaintances two days after Christmas.

“It gets me excited,” Prout said to Portzline. “We have a lot of games to play between now and then, but that kind of stuff gets you going. You know you’re going to be totally dialed in for that one.”

“I didn’t like it,” Lucic said after the Bruins’ loss to the Habs last Saturday. “Good thing is, we get to play them two more times…and I’ll be ready.”
