    Name: Steven Kampfer
    Position: Defense
    Shoots: Right
    Age: 22
    Height: 5’11”
    Weight: 197 lbs
Contract: $852,500 through 2012-13 NHL season

    2010-11 NHL season stats:
    38 GP, 5-5–10, plus-9, 12 PIM, 57 SOG

    D partners:
Zdeno Chara 56.24%, Dennis Seidenber 34.3%

Anthony’s take: Kampfer got the call up from Providence in December to fill in for the injured Mark Stuart. Kampfer came up and played very well for the Bruins until he was sent back to Providence in April.

After a few games for the baby B’s, Kampfer suffered a knee injury and missed the remainder of the season and playoffs. In 38 games with the Bruins, Kampfer had 10 points (5 goals) and finished a plus-9.

With the addition of Joe Corvo, Kampfer may be the odd-man-out next season, but once the Bruins lose a defenseman Kampfer will certainly be ready to go for the Bruins.

    Final grade: C+

Tim’s grade: He might have lost his spot when the Bruins acquired Tomas Kaberle near the trade deadline. On the other hand, its safe to say that Steven Kampfer was a pleasant surprise for the Black and Gold.

Despite only playing 38 games with Boston, the former Michigan Wolverine — who recorded 16 points in 22 games with Providence in 2010-11 — tallied 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) and gave the Bruins a lift on the blueline after Matt Hunwick’s trade to Colorado.

The arrival of Joe Corvo means that Kampfer will most likely start the 2011-12 season in Providence. But if Kampfer continues his progression — even after suffering an knee injury — then make no doubt that he’ll be a fixture on Boston’s blueline by 2012-13.

    Final grade: B-
