Despite outshooting the Connecticut Whale 10-9, the Providence Bruins find themselves trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes at the Dunkin Dontus Center. Chad Kolarik scored the lone Whale goal on the power play at 7:40 of the first – his seventh of the season – on a shot from the left faceoff circle. Kris Nebury and Marek Hrivik added their 12th and 10th assists, resepctively, on Kolarik’s tally.

    – For the first half of the opening stanza, Providence carried most of the play in its offensive zone going glove side on goalie Cameron Talbot. The Connecticut goalie, however, remained calm and poised between the pipes with his 10 first period saves.

    – In his first game of the season, defenseman Tommy Cross entered the starting lineup paring with Matt Bartkowski. The former BC defenseman committed a cross-checking penalty at 6:27 setting up the only goal of the period. Interstingly enough, former Eagle teammate Chris Kreider was called for holding at 14:58.

    – After seeing a cross-check to one of his teammates, Whale defenseman Logan Pyett dropped the gloves with Bobby Robins with 1:57 left in the first. Both men traded punches in a quick bout, which can be scored a draw. The Baby B’s will have to kill the final three seconds on Robins’ minor at the start of the second period before they return to even strength.
