Wednesday’s tragedy in Ottawa is still a sore spot for Canadians everywhere. On Saturday, 72 hours after the horrific scene at Parliament, Canada is slowly returning to its roots.

Saturday marked the first NHL action in Ottawa since the tragedy. The Senators were joined by their opponent, the New Jersey Devils, in a sign of unity prior to their contest. The Bruins, who are in Toronto to face the Leafs at the Air Canada Centre, and the Montreal Canadiens, who are playing the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre in an Eastern Conference Finals rematch, joined Ottawa simultaneously for the festivities.

No words do justice to describe the pregame ceremony in Eastern Canada, so here’s the clip.

Prior to their coverage of Hockey Night in Canada, Rogers SportsNet posted a chilling tribute of their own.

On this night, hockey is the best two and a half hour distraction that any Canadian could ask for.
