Rob Gronkowski spikes puck, named Fan of the Game

One week ago, Rob Gronkowski was spiking one of four Tom Brady touchdown passes in the New England Patriots’ 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. That was just the beginning of things.

During the Pats parade, Gronk was up to his usual self twerking on one of the duckboats while also chugging a beer during the celebration in Downtown Boston. That in and of itself would’ve made a good ending of one epic celebration. But the fifth-year tight end had another thing up his sleeve as his team was honored for their fourth Super Bowl triumph at TD Garden during a pregame ceremony in the Boston Bruins’ 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday night.

Appropriately, it was Gronk who stole the show as he spiked the puck after the ceremonial faceoff. That puck traveled about five rows up after it ricocheted off the ice and over the boards into the crowd.

For those who missed it last night, here is a video of Gronkowski’s ceremonial spike:

This is not the first time that Gronkowski took part in a ceremonial spike. Two years ago, he was in Worcester doing the same thing and shattered the puck into two pieces.

No word on whether or not the puck from Saturday’s Bruins game – or for that matter the puck in Worcester – was properly inspected for the correct PSI levels. But Gronk did earn “Fan of the Game” on Causeway Street for his effort.
