    Second period Quick hits:

    – The Oilers drew the first penalty of the second period as Brad Marchand went to the box for slashing. It was another penalty for the B’s in their offensive zone. They capitalized again as Teddy Purcell beat Rask for his seventh goal of the season giving his team another two goal lead at 3-1. The Oilers are a perfect 2-for-2 on the power play tonight.

    – Reilly Smith scored his 11th goal of the season to give the B’s life yet again cutting the lead to 3-2. Smith was reunited with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. It was his first goal in seven games. The Bergeron line has one goal, one assist, a plus-2 rating while attempting nine shots on net through two periods.

    – A little over a minute later, captain Zdeno Chara ripped a slapper that was tipped by David Pastrnak that beat Scrivens to tie the game at 3-3. It’s Pastrnak’s sixth goal of the season.

    – A struggling Dougie Hamilton has had a solid game to this point assisting on Eriksson’s and Pastrnak’s tallies. He is a plus-1 on the night and now has 23 assists on the season.

    – The second period this season for the Black and Gold has not been too kind to Julien’s team, but on this night they scored two goals to tie the game while holding the Oilers to one shot on goal in the final 11 minutes of the middle stanza.

    First period Quick hits:

    – Malcolm Subban got the call to the big club again earlier this week and all signs pointed to him starting tonight in Edmonton. But that was not the case. Due to the Bruins poor play as of late, this was an important two points for the Black and Gold and a victory is a lot more important than an audition for the youngster.

    – Tuukka Rask has now appeared in the B’s last 24 out of 25 games. It doesn’t hurt that Rask sports a 4-0-0 record with a 1.75 goals against average and .924 save percentage to go along with one shutout in his career vs. the Oilers, but this certainly speaks to the desperation mode Claude Julien’s team is in right now dropping the first two games of this crucial five-game road trip. The Finnish net-minder has allowed two or fewer goals in 12 of his 19 road starts this season and owns a 7-2-3 record.

    – The Oilers struck first on Nail Yakupov’s seventh goal of the season. He now has four goals and three assists in his last seven games. Again, the Black and Gold were sloppy in their own end and could not clear the puck out of the zone. Derek Roy showed patience with the puck and found a wide open Yakupov who was camped out in front of Rask to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.

    – Playing catch up has been the norm for the B’s over the past two weeks. Gregory Campbell tried to rally his team when he dropped the gloves with Matt Hendricks. It didn’t last long, but it seemed Hendricks got the best of Campbell. The fourth-line center received his fifth fighting major in 52 games played this season.

    – Campbell’s fellow linemate Daniel Paille committed a tripping penalty and it proved to be a costly one as the Oilers capitalized. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his 16th goal of the season to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead. It’s just another hole the B’s need to climb out of.

    – Loui Eriksson gave the B’s life late in the first period with a much needed power-play goal to cut the Oilers lead in half at 2-1. It was Eriksson’s 13th goal of the season. The new power-play unit that Julien drew up with Eriksson, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug paid dividends and they have the momentum on their side heading into the second period. What they do with that momentum remains to be seen, however.
