About 24 hours after the NHL Awards, the league unofficially wrapped up its 2014-15 campaign and launched their regular season schedule for the upcoming season. Shortly after the announcement, your’s truly posted about the five Bruins games to watch for the 2015-16 slate.

Much has changed since the Bruins’ 82-game schedule was announced. Old faces are now in new places, Don Sweeney wheeled and dealed to shake up the roster and other teams improved, at least on paper.

With that in mind, another story on the B’s opponents feels necessary. But rather than completely change the original post, we decided go with an update on five other games to watch as the team makes its preparations for the upcoming season.

So here it is, another five games to watch for Bruins fans in 2015-16:

    5. October 23 at New York Islanders

The Islanders made a couple of minor moves in the off-season, but nothing of significance. Adding Thomas Griess will provide depth behind starting goalie Jaroslav Halak and that was about it as GM Garth Snow and company prepare to move their operations to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Still, there’s no denying that the Isles are an up and coming bunch after a solid season in 2014-15 that saw them push the Washington Capitals to seven games in the first round. From John Tavares and Kyle Okposo up front to Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy manning the blue-line, the team has a solid foundation and should carry over the momentum they built from a year ago.

    4. November 3 vs. Dallas

This will be Tyler Seguin’s third trip back to Boston since the infamous trade to the Stars on July 4, 2013. This trip might bring the deepest team that he’s been a part of since his arrival in Dallas.

Seguin will be joined by last year’s leading scorer Jamie Benn along with Jason Spezza and former Blackhawk Patrick Sharp this time around. The big four, coupled with the additions of Antti Niemi and Johnny Oduya, could reignite the spark in Dallas after they failed to miss the playoffs last season. On paper, this team is a sleeper.

    3. February 9 vs. Los Angeles

The obvious storyline here is Milan Lucic returning to Boston for the first time since being traded on Draft Day. There’s a lot more to this matchup than that, however.

Both the Kings and the Bruins had a disappointing season a year ago finishing in ninth place in their respective conferences. Both teams will want to bounce back and get right back into the playoffs. Both teams may very well need this matchup to help their cause.

Even with off-ice issues surrounding Slava Voynov, the Kings are more likely to have a bounce back season even in the deep Western Conference. Whether the Bruins can join them in a bounce back season remains to be seen. Either way, it always seems to be a very physical game when these two teams meet and don’t expect that to change.

    2. March 1 vs. Calgary

Out of all the departures from a year ago, the Dougie Hamilton still is the most perplexing move of Sweeney’s first few months as GM. Whether Hamilton wanted to stay in Boston or not will be debated for quite awhile, but there’s no denying his new team, the Flames, have been raising eyebrows since their surprise return to the playoffs last season.

Hamilton makes his first appearance since the trade on March 1. Oh, and the talent coming with him is quite impressive too with the likes of Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Mark Giordano and former Bruin Dennis Wideman, just to name a few.

    1. March 24 vs. Florida

Led by reigning Calder Trophy Aaron Ekblad, the Panthers boast an impressive mix of young talent. And after last season, they’ll be looking to make the next step.

This game could also serve as Shawn Thornton’s last hurrah at TD Garden. It also provides another appearance by Reilly Smith after being traded to Florida, and as always, another Roberto Luongo spotting should provide some entertaining fan interactions.

The Bruins, Panthers, Red Wings and Senators are expected to battle for the third spot in the Atlantic. The last thing either team wants is to be on the outside looking in this late in the season, and this could be a make or break point where one team stays in the top three of the division, while the other fights for their playoff life for one of the two wild card spots in the Eastern Conference.
