Radko Gudas escaped supplemental discipline when he slammed Jimmy Vesey into the boards — leading to a game misconduct — during a Flyers-Rangers preseason game earlier in the week. He may not be so lucky the second time around.

In the Bruins’ preseason finale on Saturday night, the Flyers defenseman used his shoulder to drill Austin Czarnik in the head area on a late hit. Unlike the Rangers game, Gudas only received a two-minute minor penalty for boarding at 5:47 of the third period. Czarnik went to the locker room after the hit and did not return.

According to CSNNE’s Joe Haggerty, the Department of Player Safety is reviewing Gudas’ hit just days removed after boarding Vesey. Gudas served a three-game suspension last season for his head shot on Mika Zibanejad.

“We saw the shoulder to the head, and somehow he seems to have a knack for getting himself every game,” Bruins coach Claude Julien said following the Bruins’ 1-0 overtime win over the Flyers at the TD Garden. “I didn’t like the hit, personally. I thought it was a little bit late.”

Julien didn’t have an update on Czarnik’s status going forward. For a guy who was giving the Bruins brass something to think about with his strong play

For a player who was giving the Bruins brass something to think about with his strong play this preseason, the last thing that Czarnik needed was a roadblock en route to a possible spot on the opening night roster.

“It’s disappointing,” Julien added. “Here’s a young guy who was really having a good camp and really playing well and he ends up in the last few minutes with a hit like that.”

The 5-foot-9 Czarnik, who spent his first professional season in Providence where he tallied 61 points (20 goals, 41 assists), was tied for third among all Bruins in scoring this preseason with three points (two goals, one assist) in five games.
