    Quick pregame thoughts on Bruins-Avalanche

Given that this is the second game of a back to back of a weekend slate where the Bruins did not take part in pregame warmups, much of the same is expected tonight from the Black and Gold in Denver when they face the Colorado Avalanche. Aside from Zane McIntyre getting the nod to close out the busy five-games-in-seven-days slate, the Bruins lineup should look the same as it did over the last few games.

With the Patriots facing the Seahawks in a few hours, tonight’s radio broadcast will appear on 100.7 WZLX. As usual, NESN will televise Bruins-Avalanche in its entirety so for those opting to watch the Super Bowl XLIX rematch in Foxboro, set your DVR’s accordingly if you haven’t already.

    Tonight’s storylines

    – Fresh off his first NHL fight, Bruins rookie defenseman and Colorado native Brandon Carlo returns to his home state for the first time in his NHL career. It’s been a pretty eventful freshman campaign for Carlo, who has provided stability skating with Zdeno Chara on the B’s top defensive unit. With friends and family in attendance, Carlo hopes to impress his fellow peers at an arena where he grew up watching his hometown hockey team.

“It’s pretty crazy,” Carlo said about his return to Denver on the Bruins’ official website. “I went to a couple of games there growing up and the atmosphere is unbelievable all around the NHL and I got to experience that from a different perspective in the stands and that was the main place I got to do that, so I’m pretty excited.”

    – With Anton Khudobin apparently close to returning from an upper body injury, tonight may mark the last night for Zane McIntyre in his recent callup with the Bruins. Despite being 0-2-0, the North Dakota alum hasn’t been overwhelmed by the moment and did enough in his first two starts to at least keep the Bruins in it. One thing the Bruins need to improve on is their play when Tuukka Rask isn’t starting. Tonight, they would like nothing more than to give McIntyre – assuming he gets the nod – his first win in his NHL career.

    – Of course things are still early, but it is worth noting that with a point tonight the Bruins can overtake the Senators for second place in the Atlantic Division standings. The Bruins jumped to third place in the Atlantic thanks to their 2-1 win over the Coyotes coupled with the Lightning’s 3-1 loss to the Sharks.

    – Another Avalanche matchup means the Bruins will be seeing ex-teammates Jarome Iginla and Carl Soderberg again. The former Bruins have combined for four goals and one assist for an Avalanche team that is tied for dead last with the Vancouver Canucks in goals scored (27).
