Game Day Preview: Bruins vs. Ducks

Getting one point in their last two games against the Canadiens and Penguins would have been a pretty decent accomplishment in and of itself for the Boston Bruins – especially coming off back to back losses against the lowly Avalanche and Maple Leafs. Earning three of a possible four points, the Bruins have at least righted the ship a little bit.

Entering the second game of a back to back and third in four days, the Bruins have little time to breathe before facing tonight’s opponent, the Anaheim Ducks.

For a Bruins team that is still trying to find the net with a little more consistency, time and space for scoring chances will be hard to come by if the prior meetings with the Ducks are any indication. Head coach Claude Julien and company were swept by the Ducks last season and are 1-4-1 in their last six meetings with Anaheim.

Anton Khudobin will likely get the nod tonight against another set of former teammates. Khudobin spent last year splitting time between the Ducks and their AHL affiliate in San Diego. Exactly two weeks ago, Khudobin got the best of Carolina – a place he called home for two seasons – in a 2-1 shootout win at TD Garden.

    Tonight’s storylines

    – For the second time in 2016-17, the Bruins recalled Anton Blidh from Providence. To make room for Blidh, Danton Heinen was sent back down to the Baby Bruins. With a physical Ducks team waiting, the Bruins look to counter with Blidh reuniting with Noel Acciari from their Providence days on the fourth line, while Dominic Moore would be a candidate to move up to line three meaning Jimmy Hayes would again be watching from the Level 9 Press Box. Without the benefit of a morning skate, no one knows what Julien’s lineup will look like until warmups.

    – One night after Matt Grzelcyk’s debut, the Bruins defense may look a little different again after Kevan Miller exited the game against the Penguins. If Miller can’t go, then either Colin Miller or Joe Morrow will return to the lineup skating alongside Grzelcyk.
