Quick hits: Bruins net three in second period vs. Senators

    Second period Quick hits:

-The Bruins received their first power-play of the game 45 seconds into the second period as Reilly Smith drew the penalty on Marc Methot. Hometown boy Ryan Spooner delivered and scored his second goal of the season in front of a lot of friends and family who are attending the game to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead. The 23 year-old now has points in six straight games and seven of eight filling the void of David Krejci with no problem we may add. With that goal, Boston has scored first in their last nine games and now have five power-play goals in their last three games.

-Loui Eriksson gave the B’s some breathing room on a 4-on-4 scenario with a great individual effort shaking Craig Anderson to give Boston a 2-0 lead. The highlight reel play was Eriksson’s 17th goal of the season.

-Spooner should play in his home town more often. A little over a minute later on a 2-on-1, Spooner received a pass from Milan Lucic where he then stuffed it past Anderson for his second goal of the night.

-Penalty Kill: The B’s killed off yet another penalty when Adam McQuaid went to the box for interference earlier in the period. Boston has now killed all three penalties to this point. Claude Julien’s team is still having trouble staying out of the box, but their penalty kill has been much improved over the past week, a part of their game where the B’s coach wanted a quick turnaround.

-Tuukka Rask is partying like it’s his birthday (because it is) stonewalling the Senators through two periods with 29 saves. Ottawa has hit three posts, but Rask is making some acrobatic saves in the process. With Rask’s play and the B’s record when holding a three goal lead this season (12-0-1), it will be tough for the Senators to come back, but we saw the Calgary Flames do it so it is not out of the question.
